Why the Automotive Industry Is Repositioning in the Rio South Texas Region
February 2, 2026Port Laredo has consolidated its position as the third most important Port of Entry in the United States, while remaining #1 in land-based trade and #1 in USMCA commerce.
Between November 2024 and October 2025, Laredo moved $352 billion in total trade, including $341 billion with Mexico, representing 40% of all U.S.–Mexico trade and 22% of total USMCA trade. That equals more than $1.1 billion crossing the border every single day.
Today, one out of every four commercial trucks crossing any U.S. border does so through Laredo, supported by robust rail operations and sustained logistics investment. These figures underscore the growing strategic importance of the Rio South Texas Region as a highly integrated, USMCA-protected economic platform for North American manufacturing, trade, and supply chain resilience.
COSTEP congratulates Port Laredo for its leadership and continued contribution to U.S. competitiveness and regional economic strength.
