For nearly 90 years, the Port of Brownsville has stood as one of Mexico’s most strategic logistics allies. Today, 90% of the cargo arriving at the port is destined for Mexico, supporting critical industries such as automotive, energy, and manufacturing.
During a visit led by Humberto Martínez, President of Index Nacional, along with leaders from Index Reynosa, Matamoros, and Nuevo Laredo, port authorities highlighted the importance of this logistics hub and presented ongoing expansion projects designed to strengthen binational trade.
Key commodities flowing daily through the port to Mexico include:
- Steel and aluminum, essential for automotive and manufacturing industries.
- Petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, lubricants, and petrochemicals.
- Wind energy and aerospace components, including blades and large-scale structures.
- Industrial project cargo, heavy machinery, and specialized products.
Agreements with Index
Following a strategic meeting to discuss the port’s activities, scope, and future growth, as well as a tour of its terminals and operations, Index Nacional President Humberto Martínez and Guillermo Rico Leal, Director of Business Development & Marketing at the Port of Brownsville, emphasized the importance of working together to strengthen international trade and attract new investment benefiting both Mexico and the United States.
The meeting also included William Dietrich, CEO of the Port of Brownsville; Arturo Gómez, Director of Operations; Alfredo Guajardo, President of Index Reynosa; Rolando González, President of Index Matamoros; Luis Méndez, Director of Index Reynosa; Roberto Mattus, Director of Index Matamoros; Javier Herrera, Director of Index Nuevo Laredo; Sergio Gracia, President of Mexico Industry; as well as Yeimy Núñez and Giselle Bravo, Coordinators of Foreign Trade and Logistics at Index Matamoros; and Juan Manuel Castañeda, Foreign Trade Manager of Index Nuevo Laredo.
In 2024, the Port of Brownsville handled 28 million tons of cargo, with projections to reach 60 million tons by 2030. Today, it generates more than 14,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Through these strategic meetings, Index Nacional, its local councils, and the Port of Brownsville continue to strengthen collaboration, driving import and export growth while attracting new investments that create jobs and opportunities on both sides of the border.
