Pharr Lands First South Texas Semiconductor Grant with Avant Technology Expansion

The semiconductor industry has officially reached a new milestone in Rio South Texas Region.

Avant Technology will expand its manufacturing facility in Pharr with support from a $4.83 million grant awarded through the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF). The project is expected to create 250 jobs and generate more than $20 million in capital investment, positioning the Rio Grande Valley within Texas’ expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

The announcement carries strategic significance for South Texas, as it represents the first TSIF-funded project in the region, reinforcing the growing role of the Rio South Texas Region in advanced manufacturing and technology-driven industries.

Avant Technology specializes in the design and advanced manufacturing of semiconductor assemblies, including solid-state drives and memory modules. Through the Pharr expansion, the company will increase production capacity for more sophisticated semiconductor assemblies serving enterprise, automotive, and industrial markets.

The workforce development component attached to the project is important.

Avant Technology will collaborate with South Texas College to provide students with hands-on access to semiconductor electronics assembly, quality control systems, and advanced manufacturing training. The initiative directly aligns education with real-world production requirements, helping build the technical workforce necessary to support more sophisticated industrial growth across the region.
