September 24, 2026The University of Texas Education and Research Center at Laredo is planning a $45 million expansion, adding new spaces for learning and research to South Texas.
The project represents a significant addition to Rio South Texas Region´s educational infrastructure. It also highlights the important connection between higher education and the region’s continued efforts to develop talent, attract investment and strengthen its economy.
Including a three-story, 57,000-square-foot multipurpose building at the center’s campus at 1937 Bustamante St., the facility will feature classrooms, laboratories, academic and staff offices, and related support spaces.
According to a permit filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction is scheduled to begin September 1, with completion planned for March 27, 2028. San Antonio-based Alta Architects is designing the building.
