August 22, 2025
The Rio South Texas Region proudly congratulates Rene Xavier Gonzalez on his inauguration as President of the Comité de Desarrollo Económico de Matamoros (CODEM), held yesterday evening.
Founded in 1989, CODEM has played a pivotal role in strengthening the economic ties between Matamoros, Mexico, and Brownsville, Texas, fostering collaboration that has fueled growth on both sides of the border. For more than 18 years, the organization has supported some of the most important economic projects in the region, bringing together leaders and companies from key sectors such as customs, law, finance, industrial development, and logistics.
As a non-profit, CODEM’s mission is clear: to serve as a promotion, consulting, and support organization that fortifies the economic and sustainable growth of Matamoros. With members that represent the backbone of the community’s economic infrastructure—from industrial parks and financial institutions to service providers and economic organizations—CODEM continues to be a trusted partner in regional progress.
About Rene Xavier Gonzalez
Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Rene Xavier Gonzalez attended Saint Joseph Academy and the University of Texas in Brownsville, focusing on marketing and business administration. He has applied his expertise in marketing and sales to the industrial sector in both Matamoros and Brownsville.
From his early work in new business development at NovaLink Nearshore Manufacturing Solutions—a successful Matamoros shelter manufacturing facility co-founded by his family—to his current role as Head of New Business Development & Marketing at SIDEE Industrial Development (Servicios Inmobiliarios para el Desarrollo Exportador, S. de R.L. de C.V.), Gonzalez has been at the forefront of industrial growth in the region. Since 1999, SIDEE has become one of the leading developers and lessors of industrial parks in Matamoros, currently spearheading Los Palmares Industrial Park in the Northwestern corridor of the city, home to multiple automotive manufacturing facilities.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Gonzalez has been an active participant in regional economic development. He has served two terms as Chairman of the Rio South Texas Economic Council (RSTEC) and now assumes his new position as President of CODEM. Recently, he was also recognized by ProMexico Industry as one of the 60 leading industrial promoters driving substantial growth in the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas.
Looking Ahead
With his leadership, Rene Xavier Gonzalez steps into a role that is essential for building stronger bridges across the border, promoting investment opportunities, and advancing the vision of a competitive, integrated, and sustainable future for our binational region.
We extend our best wishes to Mr. Gonzalez as he embarks on this new chapter, confident that his dedication and expertise will further strengthen the mission of CODEM and contribute to the prosperity of both Matamoros and the Rio South Texas Region.
